TRANSIT REPUBLIC

移動型のラボラトリー『Transit Republic』の第一弾は、アメリカ、日本、台湾など 環太平洋地域をリサーチしながら、同時に制作や討論をロサンゼルスで行った。 ロサンゼルスのサンタモニカ空港に隣接するアリーナ1ギャラリーを拠点に、アーティスト、キュレーター、エデュケーター、リサーチャー、編集者など、さまざまな背景を持つ人たちが入れ替わり立ち替わり滞在しては、展示、トークイベント、上映会などを企画・実施した。東アジアのコレクティブにスポットを当てたスペースでは、ジェントリフィケーションや移民文化など、現在世界中で起きている現象についても取り扱った。

会期中、人が訪れることによってギャラリーは更新され続けた。また、わたしたち自身もギャラリーを飛び出して、連日のようにアーティストやアーティスト・ラン・スペースに出向いた。市内の再開発地域を訪ね、移民コミュニティとアートの多様な関係をリサーチするなかで、メキシコとの国境の町ティフアナを訪れることになる。そこでの交流がきっかけとなり、会期後半にはティフアナを拠点とするアーティストたちの作品も展示に加わることになった。

これら一連の企画やリサーチを、『ART BRIDGE 05』として出版すべく、拠点の一角には「編集室」を設けた。アート、人類学、ジャーナリズムをつなぎリアルタイムに制作と発表を行う新しい形式のアクションである。試行錯誤を繰り返しながら、今後もその方法論を進化させつつ、第二、第三の越境芸術祭を目指す。

TRANSIT REPUBLIC

Transit Republic materialized from the tactile necessities of site specific research and archiving of multifaceted creative disciplines across national and sociopolitical borders of the Pan Pacific realm.

As a transposing publishing bureau and micro arts festival correlating international border cultures, the project is produced by a selected group of artists, curators, editors and educators responding to the current sociopolitical landscape in which the balance of power has shifted away from international frictions to internalized disparities within economical class structures. From

immersive reexamination of the creative economy, contemporary enterprises and its impact on local communities can we weigh the human footprints left on our environment.

The objective of this research is the world-making compilation of informative dialogues and findings forming into Art Bridgeʼs 5th issue, the first of its kind to incorporate a true DIY manifesting of collecting local news as well as creating a platform for collaborative possibilities, ethos of change and critical togetherness. The first iteration of Transit Republic, was set in Los Angeles. The projects duration of twenty five days coincides and is inspired but the short lived Republic ofCalifornia before the Gold Rush.
